South Westminster BIDs Summer Activity Weekend

The Victoria, Victoria Westminster, Whitehall and Northbank BIDs are hosting a series of summer activities and performances this August.

Activities on offer include musical performances, acrobatics, a caricaturist, and kids crafts plus giant garden games for friends and family to enjoy. We’ll also have our deckchairs out so you can sit back and relax in the sun.

Friday 13th August: 11.30 am-7.30 pm – Christchurch Gardens

11.30am – 2.30 pm: Acoustic trio, Harper and Grace will offer you the perfect lunchtime backdrop. With pop, rock and jazz covers on their repertoire, there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy.

11.30am – 2.30pm: While the music sounds, a digital caricaturist will be on hand to capture you. In keeping with our ‘Everyday Kings and Queens’ campaign, you and your friends can be captured with a crown for the day.

PICNIC: Local restaurant, Ibérica have put together a delicious picnic bag of cheeses, charcuterie, and drinks. Pre-order online, pick up and then make your way to the gardens to enjoy the entertainment in the day or evening. *Orders can be made on the day. Order here

4.30 pm – 7.30 pm: As the day draws to a close, stop by the gardens to hear The Wild Roamers. This dynamic trio will get you into the party spirit for the weekend with a mixture of Motown, the nineties, and modern hits.

Gardens games will be out to enjoy throughout the day including giant four in a row, Jenga and chess – a friendly competition between colleagues at lunchtime, or a family activity for the day!

Saturday 14th August: 10 am-5 pm – Lower Grosvenor Gardens

11 – 1.30pm: Handmade card maker Eileen from local store True and Naive will be crafting little papercut Kings and Queens of Victoria. Children will be invited to make miniature versions of themselves, which will become the centrepiece of a Victoria-inspired card. Kids will receive a gift pack containing materials needed for the project, plus a few papercut stickers inspired by the day’s theme. If the kids don’t finish the card on-site, they’ll be able to take away the material and complete it later.
*Drop by Eileen’s table to get creative. No booking is required.

12pm – 3pm: Guitarist and singer trio, Harper and Grace will entertain you in the sun with their eclectic tunes.

12pm – 3pm: A gentle giant stilt walker and acrobat will drop in to mesmerise and entertain the children for the afternoon.

1.30pm – 4.30pm: Local florist, Isle of Flowers will be making flower crowns in the gardens for children. *Kids and their parents can stop at their table to add their favourite summer flowers to their crown. No booking is required.

ROYAL PARK PICNIC: Make your day out extra special and enjoy a royal afternoon tea or hamper picnic in the gardens. Pre-order and collect from The Ruben’s at the Palace – just 5 minutes’ walk away, and tuck into delicious finger sandwiches and cakes, while you are being entertained. *Order required 24hrs in advance. Giant garden games will be available for everyone to enjoy including snakes and ladders, quoits, and drafts.

COURTYARD COCKTAILS: As one of our ‘hidden gems’ this summer, the Courtyard at St James’ Court, A Taj Hotel will be running a 30-minute cocktail making session in their stunning courtyard – just up the road. Their mixologist will show you how to make one of the hotel’s most popular cocktails, which you can then sit back and relax to enjoy.

Should you like the taste, you’ll be welcome to stay and enjoy 2-for-1 on selected cocktails for the next hour.

Sunday 15th August: 10 am-5 pm – Victoria Embankment Gardens

11am – 2pm: A digital caricaturist will be sat near the bandstand to capture all the family as Kings and Queens – an image with a difference for your family wall!

11am- 2pm: When you aren’t busy being drawn, you can while away the hours listening to music from acoustic trio, Harper and Grace.

PEPPA PIG PICNIC: For the younger children, pick up a Peppa Pig afternoon tea picnic from local bakery, Bridgit’s Bakery on Chandos Place to enjoy in the gardens. They do delicious takeaway teas for the adults too! *Orders for collection required 1 day prior Book here

MAGICAL AFTERNOON TEA: Alternatively, top off the family weekend with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory takeaway afternoon tea. Collect your magical box from One Aldwych Hotel in the morning before joining the Sunday entertainment. *Orders for collection required by 12pm Thursday. Book here

2pm – 5pm: The Wild Roamers, a fantastic acoustic roaming band will be wandering through the gardens, encouraging you to tap your feet or they may even get you dancing.

2pm – 5pm: As the band play, an acrobat and stilt walker will provide fantasy and joy to your family afternoon.

If that wasn’t enough to keep you busy, a variety of giant garden games will be out to play with.

And…while you are in the area for the weekend, you will also be able to visit our ‘Everyday Kings and Queens’ installations celebrating local heroes. Take a selfie on our card playing bench in Nova Victoria, let the kids walk through our card themed tower walkway in Victoria Embankment Gardens or follow the royal processional route using our illustrated map trail, encouraging the children to look out for the area’s special buildings.
